Niger Publishing
Do not confuse the word Niger with the word Nigger. In my experience of using the spelling of Niger, I have realized that many people have seen the word Niger and have asked me why I used that word, and they go on to pronounce the word nigger. Then it seems I have to go into an educational mode and explain that the word is not nigger, but rather the word is Niger with a soft g and not a hard g.
Some of you might even be wise enough to realize that there is a country in Africa named Niger. This site has no affiliation with the country Niger.
When I became knowledgeable of the word Niger, I was attracted to the educational aspect of it. So let's get down to an explanation of the word. Niger is a Latin word that means black. Of course other words were derived from the word Niger such as Negro, and nigger. Of course the original word Niger did not have a negative connotation, but some people came along and derived negative words from the word Niger. Negative words such as nigger, and negative. And since Niger means Black, let's look at how the word Black was turned into a negative. For example, Devil's food cake is black, while angel food cake is white.
As a consequence, one reason for using the word Niger, is to educate.
